Sand Making with a VSI Crusher
A VSI crushes material by hurling it with a rotor against stone, producing cubical grains. Even the largest model accepts only 50-55 mm feed, so at least two crushing stages must come before it.
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Crushing Stages
In a crushing and screening plant the material is reduced step by step: primary accepts up to 1300 mm, secondary 800 mm, tertiary 150 mm and VSI only 25-55 mm. This chain makes it impossible to feed a VSI directly with quarry material.

An impact crusher breaks material by striking it with blow bars on the rotor, producing cubical grains. PDK is for the primary stage, DMK for the secondary; since DMK feed is fixed at 800 mm, selection is made according to throughput.

A jaw crusher breaks by compression, an impact crusher by striking. At a similar feed size the impact crusher gives 1.3 times the capacity but draws 2.2 times the power. Jaw is preferred for abrasive stone, impact for limestone.
