Jaw Plates for Jaw Crushers

Jaw plates are the primary wear parts of a jaw crusher. Because feed material is compressed and broken between the fixed and swing jaws, the plates carry the direct load of the crushing action and wear over time.

Material: High-Manganese Steel

Jaw plates are typically cast from high-manganese austenitic steel (Mn13 grade). Its key property is work hardening: under repeated impact the surface hardness increases while the core keeps its toughness and resists fracture. This gives long service life in abrasive applications.

Fixed and Swing Jaw

A jaw crusher has two plates: the fixed jaw bolted to the frame and the swing jaw driven by the eccentric shaft. Both are wear parts; their wear rates can differ with feeding practice, so they should be monitored periodically.

Tooth Profile and Capacity

The tooth profile on the plate surface affects both crushing efficiency and product shape. Deep-tooth profiles suit large feed and primary crushing, while closer, lower-tooth profiles produce a more cubical product for finer crushing. The right profile is chosen by material hardness and target product size.

Wear and Replacement

When plates are designed symmetrically, they can be reversed once one side is worn to extend life. Replacement intervals depend on material abrasiveness, feed size and operating hours. A worn plate shows up as reduced capacity and drift in product size.
