Vibrating Rock Feeder (Grizzly Feeder)

A vibrating rock feeder (grizzly feeder) is a heavy-duty machine that feeds run-of-mine (ROM) rock to the primary jaw or impact crusher in a steady, controlled flow, while its grizzly by-pass section separates fines and soil before they reach the crusher. Built by General Makina, it is driven by a vibromotor or an eccentric belt-and-pulley drive, handles feed sizes up to 1500 mm and works at 75-600 tph.
How it works
A loader, truck or excavator dumps ROM material into the hopper. The vibrating trough, mounted on heavy-duty helical springs, moves material forward with a linear/circular vibration. The grizzly section at the trough end performs two functions:
- By-pass (pre-scalping): fines and soil pass through the grizzly bars and bypass the crusher straight to the conveyor/screen, so the crusher is not loaded unnecessarily.
- Steady feeding: oversize rock is metered over the bars into the crusher mouth, maintaining a choke-feed regime that improves crusher efficiency and cubical particle shape.
Role in the plant
The feeder is the plant's first link: regulated feeding plus pre-scalping/by-pass. The by-pass keeps fines and soil away from the primary crusher, reducing jaw/impact liner wear (a direct effect on cost per ton), raising capacity and cutting wasted crushing energy. Continuous, non-intermittent feeding gives a more stable crusher output.
Technical specifications
| Model | Width (mm) | Length (mm) | Capacity (tph) | Motor (kW) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GNR 60 | 700 | 3000 | 75~100 | 2x3 |
| GNR 90 | 1000 | 3750 | 140~210 | 2x4 |
| GNR 110 | 1100 | 4750 | 200~300 | 2x7.5 |
| GNR 140 | 1400 | 5000 | 350~600 | 2x9.2 |
Common features: 15-100 m³ hopper capacity, maximum feed size 1500 mm, reinforced steel construction, heavy-duty helical springs, bolted replaceable body wear liners and abrasion-resistant by-pass grizzly bars.
Applications and material
Ideal for hard/abrasive quarry rock (granite, basalt), limestone and dry to medium-moisture ROM. With high-moisture or sticky (clayey) material there is a blinding/pegging risk on the grizzly; in that case a Wobbler feeder is preferred. Suited to fixed and mobile primary plant intakes, mining, aggregate and recycling sites.
Complete plant solution
General Makina supplies the feeder together with the primary jaw/impact crusher, grizzly screen, belt conveyor and concrete batching plant from a single supplier. The feeder can be engineered as one integrated project with the full crushing-screening-washing line — one point of contact, one accountable party and a matched spare-parts chain (wear grizzly bars / body plates).
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a vibrating rock feeder do?
It feeds run-of-mine rock to the primary crusher in a steady, controlled flow while pre-scalping fines and soil through a grizzly by-pass before they reach the crusher, raising crusher efficiency and reducing wear.
Why is the grizzly by-pass important?
The by-pass keeps fines and soil away from the crusher. That reduces jaw/impact liner wear (lowering cost per ton), increases capacity and efficiency, and avoids wasting crushing energy on material that is already fine.
Should I choose vibromotor or eccentric drive?
A vibromotor is ideal for small to medium capacities; an eccentric-weight belt-and-pulley drive is preferred for high capacity and large lumps. General Makina offers both and recommends the right one for your application.
What are the maximum feed size and capacity?
The feeder accepts ROM material up to 1500 mm. Capacity ranges by model from 75 tph (GNR 60) to 600 tph (GNR 140).
Can it handle sticky or wet material?
It is ideal for dry to medium-moisture material. With high-moisture or clayey material the grizzly can blind (clog); in that case a Wobbler feeder is recommended. Send us your material type and we will configure the right feeder.
