The drive type determines how the screen vibrates and therefore how material travels across the surface. With a top-mounted vibro motor drive, the vibration is applied directly to the screen body.

What this means in the field is ease of maintenance.

Because there is no separate shaft, belt and pulley group, the number of wearing parts falls; the motor being in an accessible position on the screen also shortens intervention time.

Vibration amplitude and speed are set according to the material to be screened: a higher amplitude is used with damp and clayey material to prevent blinding, while a more balanced motion is preferred with dry and fine material.
