The decision to use a cone crusher in the second stage is entirely about the material. The General cone crusher breaks stone by squeezing it from several directions with a head that gyrates eccentrically inside a conical mantle. It handles hard, abrasive materials such as basalt, granite, river stone and ore with ease.

The real difference shows up in operating cost.

An impact crusher wears through its blow bars quickly in hard stone, while a cone crusher works the same material at a lower wear-part cost and produces a cubical product. Once cost per tonne is calculated, the difference in initial investment pays for itself on hard-rock lines.

On sites with very hard rock, as in Balıkesir, the line is set up with a jaw crusher in the primary stage and a cone crusher in the secondary. The abrasiveness of the material decides which crusher goes into which stage.
