Choosing a cone for the secondary stage is a decision about the material. The General cone crusher crushes by compressing material from several directions with an eccentrically rotating head inside a conical mantle, and works in hard, abrasive material such as basalt, granite, river stone and ore.

The difference shows up in operating cost.

An impact crusher consumes blow bars quickly in hard stone; a cone crusher works on the same material at a lower parts cost and delivers a cubical product. When cost per tonne is calculated, the difference in initial investment comes back in hard stone lines.

On sites with high rock hardness, as in Balıkesir, the line is built with a primary jaw and secondary cone pairing; which crusher stands at which stage is determined by the abrasiveness of the material.
